This Vintage Peruvian Chullo was sourced in the Andes and is handmade 100% alpaca wool, and is a symbol of the Peruvian Andean culture. It can indicate the region, special ranking or social positioning within the community and can also indicate marital status.
Men's hats are usually Sombreros and are worn over a chullo. They are also used in ceremony, generating a connection to the Andean culture and spirituality. A father will hand knit and give the Chullo traditionally to his child. The colour and shape also can determine if the male is single.
It's handmade using natural dyes and alpaca wool from the area. The hanging straps are beaded.
